Brief stop in Huntsville

My wife and I will be making a one hour late morning %26#39;comfort stop%26#39; in Huntsville during our drive through northern Alabama in September. Can anyone suggest where we could park up, stretch our legs, have a coffee and a sandwich and get a sense of old Huntsville before continuing our journey ?

One of the few remaining old Huntsville establishments I can think of that hasn%26#39;t changed much is Big Spring Cafe on Governors Drive about 3/4 of a mile west of Memorial Pkwy. Big Spring is more of a grill than a cafe where you can get a good burger or hamburger steak at a reasonable price. It%26#39;s a really old building with maybe a dozen or so stools at the counter and one or two tables. It%26#39;s a real, old time, greasy spoon joint. They serve breakfast and lunch Mon-Sat. Maybe someone else can come up with something old time that I haven%26#39;t thought of.

Thank you for your kind reply. Would we be better off heading downtown for an hours stroll and browse ?

You might enjoy walking through the Old Town Historic District and seeing the old homes. There are a few shops and some dining and clubs downtown but mostly offices. I don%26#39;t go downtown much as it%26#39;s too much of a hassle and the shops and dining don%26#39;t appeal to me but I know a lot of people who go. Here are some links that may help you decide.

Decatur is closer to the interstate. It has a couple of interesting historic residential areas and several lunch spots - Gibson%26#39;s BBQ, b.b. perrin%26#39;s BBQ, City Cafe, among others.
