Hampton Inn in Decatur

We%26#39;ll need to stop for an overnight stay somewhere close to I-65 on our way to Gulf Shores. Is the Hampton Inn in Decatur a clean, safe hotel? We were planning on driving past Birmingham to Alabaster area, but are now thinking that we%26#39;ll need to make an earlier stop. Thanks for your help.

Don%26#39;t know about the Hampton in Decatur but the Holiday Inn Express in Athens at the Hwy 72 exit is new and should be very nice. The area around the HIE is very safe with many restaurants like Logan%26#39;s Roadhouse, Cracker Barrel, Lawler%26#39;s BBQ and Bojangle%26#39;s Chicken to mention a few. There%26#39;s also a Nestle Toll House Cafe that has delicious baked deserts and ice cream treats.

One other factor to consider... to get there can be a 15-20 minute drive from I-65 during peak traffic hours (It is around 8 miles away from the interstate through a very congested area.)

Thanks for your responses. We will be arriving around 11pm so surely their won%26#39;t be much traffic. I asked how close to the interstate they were and they said about 4-6 miles. The Holiday Inn at Athens does have availability, but the room rates are higher. If the Decatur hotel isn%26#39;t clean or safe, then I will certainly switch hotels. Anybody else stayed there?

I haven%26#39;t stayed there since I live in town, but the hotel is in a safe area. It%26#39;s just kind of far from the interstate. There are a few hotels right at the exit; also, a number at the Athens exit. If it%26#39;s like most Hampton Inns, it should be fine.
