Trip Report 8/30

We arrived in GS on Aug. 30 and the weather was beautiful! Beaches were great, too! That night, we ate at Gulf Island Grill. Excellent snow crab, but the drinks were watered down. The next morning we had breakfast at Big O%26#39;s - just a little hole in the wall, but food was great! 2 hours later, we heard about the mandatory evacuation, so we hurried to get on the road so as to beat the traffic, which we did. So, sadly our vacation in GS lasted less than 24 hours. But we will be back - not to the same condo, but definitely the area. Luckily, we will get a refund.

Trip Report 8/30

Glad you had some fun on your abbreviated trip, come back again soon! Where was the condo that you wouldn%26#39;t stay in again?

Trip Report 8/30

I%26#39;m as guilty as the next person, but Big O%26#39;s does get overlooked quite a bit. They serve a very good breakfast and lunch. Yeah, clue us in on the name of the condo...

I stayed at The Whaler. It was an older building, which I was okay with. But when we arrived at the building, the elevator was very old %26amp; rickety that if you didn%26#39;t get into it fast enough, the door would come full force at you! My husband %26amp; I just looked at each other as if to say, what did we get ourselves into for the week? When we opened the door to the condo, we had an immediate feeling that the place wasn%26#39;t clean. The master bedroom had a smell of body odor and there was hairs on the floor of the main bathroom. I immediately washed the bed linens and put the comforter in the closet. That helped with the smell. The glass shelves in the bar area looked as if they hadn%26#39;t been dusted in quite some time. And there was an old used band-aid on the sofa! But the weather was great for the day, our view was excellent, and the pool was okay. We had always stayed at condos on the 1st floor and this time we were on the 7th. We discovered that our dog is afraid of heights. We%26#39;ll be back on the 1st floor next time!

That%26#39;s unfortunate about the condo. I like the Whaler because of its low density and location. If you rented from a rental company you might consider asking for some money back because it was dirty. Probably won%26#39;t work, but doesn%26#39;t hurt to ask. If you rented from the owner directly I would be even more insistent and agressive.

I%26#39;ve always like the Whaler too but some owners have not kept them in good shape. Sounds like you found one of them! Just a word of advice, when you walk in a condo and get that creepy, it%26#39;s not clean feeling, immediately, I mean right that minute, call the management company or owner. If it%26#39;s with a management company they will send someone out to clean it. If it%26#39;s beyond help (i.e., doesn%26#39;t matter how much they clean it%26#39;s still a dog) ask to be moved. The sooner they hear from you the more likely it is that you will receive a refund for that night as well as other ';comps'; (gift certificate for food or future stay). If you wait to call and do all the clean-up yourself they may think you%26#39;re just trying to get a freebie. If you rented directly from the owner they should be made aware as well as they are relying on people in the area to clean and obviously this owner was paying good money for bad service.

P.S. Don%26#39;t mention the dog! :-)

I plan to let the owner know about their cleaning service. I%26#39;m not worried about that part of the refund. She refunded the rest of my money plus my pet deposit so fast, that I%26#39;m just going to leave it at that. She seems very nice to deal with. She%26#39;s based out of Michigan, but from talking with her the week before we were to arrive, I got the feeling that they were there right before us. So maybe, she doesn%26#39;t see the dirt. The towels were clean and the sheets were probably clean too. I just washed them for my own self. They also keep a guest sign in book on the kitchen counter, and after reading through it, I was definitely not the only one who thought it was dirty. I hate to give someone a bad review, but if I had known these things myself, I would never had rented this condo.

Wouldn%26#39;t you have wanted to know before you arrived that other people had felt the property wasn%26#39;t well kept? You%26#39;re not being picky as others had reported the same thing in the guest book. Either the owner doesn%26#39;t see it as you said or they don%26#39;t really care. Either way, for other guests sake, write a review and gently say that the cleaning wasn%26#39;t up to standard. Do it for the children! :-)

';Do it for the children! :-)';

Hahahahahahahahahahah!!!

Now, THAT is funny!

Glad you appreciate my warped sense of humor!
