The dunes 9-6 to 9-12

This is my first post and doing it b/c i do get a lot of good info from this sight. I t was very helpful in planning our first trip to gulf shores and did read where everyone asking for feedback and felt it only fair. So i kept a little daily journal and wrote in each eve. I need to condense it some or will be typing and you reading for days so will do so and start posting for you. But will start with this arrived at dunes condos about 3pm on sat and check in took all of 5 min. When we got to room all i can say is omg. Beautiful, so clean we were blown away. Especially for price. We didnt cook any, not worth it for to, therfore we dined at a lot of your reccommendations. King neptunes was favorite. Big o%26#39;s seafood onlyok but lunch specials looked great. Papa Roccos not worth it. Jalapenos was very good. I cant say enough about the dunes condos or properties. Ike began to reek havoc and had to cut trip early to return to ft worth tx to deal with some more ike. Will condense journal and give you full trip report in day or so. I promise. Being first times to gs just want to say i do see why some of you didnt leave b/c we didnt want to either and are already planning next trip for same time next year

It%26#39;s great that you enjoyed it so much! Too bad about Ike cutting short the trip AND waiting for you at home. That really seems unfair. King Neptune%26#39;s is a family favorite for us, too. Can%26#39;t wait to read a full report from your trip -- although you covered a lot of ground, so to speak, in this one!

Sorry you had to cut your trip short but thankfully you were able to enjoy the time you did have. I think the Dunes is a beautiful complex, especially if you really want to kick back and just relax. The price for a condo there can%26#39;t be beat. Too bad you didn%26#39;t have a good experience at Papa Rocco%26#39;s, it must have been an off night. Come back again soon and thanks for the TR!

Thanks for your replies. I apologize for not getting TR up yet. My return to the real world was like everybofy else (slammed). Maybe i was a little harsh on papa roccos, didnt get pizza or beer as was reccommended. Thank goodness the only thing we got from ike in ft worth was some well needed rain. We got home just in time to see ike make land. We usually cruise once a year, but i think we found a new yearly trip. The people from my area are in awe when they see our pics of your beutiful area. In fact they all say this is al? I already miss it and am jealous of you who get to live there. Lucky you.

So glad to hear all is well in your area, thanks for letting us know. I had many friends where I used to live that had no idea that Alabama had some of the worlds most beautiful beaches and wondered why in the heck I would move here. Those that did know about our coast contemptuously referred to it as the Red-Neck Riviera, preferring instead to frequent what they considered superior locations. Their loss, our gain. You just can%26#39;t beat the combination of beautiful beaches and great southern hospitality. We hope you%26#39;ll come back again soon!

PS...Papa Rocco%26#39;s for the oysters, pizza and the beer for sure.

You are so right about the beutiful beaches. I have been to padre, corpus, galveston (when it was in better shape). Also to cozumel, carribean and a few others and your beach is better than any of those in tx. anyway. Funny you should mention redneck riviera, my dh has a friend that went a few years back and told him that was what it was called and asked him to bring back t-shirts, we looked everywhere but had no luck finding any. The seafood there was the best we have ever had. Since i havent mentioned it yet and forgot to mention it in my original posts of restaurants, we also ate at sea n suds. I was looking so forward to this so we could dine right on beach, got there at 745pm and they would not let us sit on outdoor area, when i saw other couples sitting there i asked why we couldnt and waitress said they were closing it for the night. ok its 745pm. Then they starte mopping around us and putting chairs on top of tables and we could hear several workers asking to go home and arguing amongst each other about everybody staying so they could all hurry and get out. I only got salad bar because i didnt feel they would put any effort into cooking a decent meal, dh got oyster sandwich which he said was pretty good. I expected them to start taking salad bar up at anytime. Well people kept coming in so im sure staff was not happy about leaving early plans ruined, we felt very rushed, ate quickly and left. So dont know what to think about this rest.

That%26#39;s too bad about Sea-n-Suds, don%26#39;t understand why they would close the deck so early. That%26#39;s the reason most people go there in the first place! It%26#39;s certainly not because of the charming ambience of the interior :-) You can excuse poor food as it may be just an ';off'; night, but even poor food served with care and hospitality can be better than great food served with a surly attitude.
