Restaurant info

My daughter%26#39;s graduation will be at the Von Braun on May 9th. We will be staying at the Holiday Inn across the street from the Von Braun. I know there is Lofton%26#39;s in the motel and Ruth Chris at the Embassy. After looking at Huntsville.org I have a list of restaurants that are located on University Drive and Memorial P%26#39;way. I am trying to find something close to the motel. I have found...

Beauregard%26#39;s-Memorial P%26#39;way,Applebee%26#39;s-Memorial P%26#39;way,O%26#39;Charley%26#39;s-University Drive, Olive Garden-University Drive,Chili%26#39;s Grill and Bar-University, Romano%26#39;s Macaroni Grill-University Drive,Rosie%26#39;s Mexican Cantina-University Drive, La Alamedia Mexican Restaurant-University Drive, Logan%26#39;s Roadhouse -University Drive, Lone Star Steakhuse and Saloon-University Drive. This is for a party of 10-15 people including at least two children. So I am looking for something that would be family oriented and not just a burger place. My daughter likes mexican food and I want it to be her choice so we are lending towards Rosie%26#39;s and La Alamedia. If anyone can give me info on these places it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sadly there is not much downtown kid friendly. If you are looking for Mexican, I would recommend the South Parkway Rosie%26#39;s. It is as close as the one on University (especially considering traffic) and less crowded. I think the food at Rosie%26#39;s is fine, not great, but a lot of people here LOVE it. It is a fun atmosphere though, very accomodating of big groups and children.

Another suggestion is El Palacio%26#39;s on Memorial Parkway - an oldie but a goodie. Downtown is also Paulie%26#39;s Chop House which is supposed to be pretty good.

I would not recommend El Palacio for children if they do not like dark places, it can be very dark in there (there are no windows past the entrance)

Rosie%26#39;s food is average mexican (by that I mean Americanized), but they have the capability to handle groups faily easily and the service there is usually above average, even with groups. I have not had good luck with groups at Applebee%26#39;s or Chili%26#39;s. I would probably put Logan%26#39;s on University a close second to Rosie%26#39;s on handling groups.

Phil Sandovals would be a great choice. It is on University Drive and Research Park Blvd. across from the Walmart. It is owned by the same people as Rosie%26#39;s, but with a different menu and great atmosphere. It just opened about 2 weeks ago and we have eaten there several times. It is locally owned and very family-friendly. I think your family will enjoy it.

Rosie%26#39;s is also a good choice. Actually the two restaurants are the same owners.

I just ate at Phil Sandovals mexican restaurant. Really BAD! Do not recommend it to anyone. Sausa tasted like they opened a can and then burned it in a pan heating it up. I ordered a Chicken Buritto. They took a char grilled chicken breast, cut it into 5 or 6 thick pieces, spread a little dry beans on a tortilla and wraped it up. It tasted like grilled chicken. Tried the white chese sause too but it was bland. Un-eatable dinner for 6 = $100.00

If you want good mexican food, try La Placita at 401 Hughes Rd in Madison. It is across from Hollywood videos and Kroger%26#39;s. This is a small cozy authentic restaurant with reasonable prices and great food. PS, they also make killer Margaritas. Very good family restaurant. They usually have a sports game on TV from their spanish cable network in one room and music in the other.
