Going to be in Birmingham so at the end of April and since it is race time, had difficulty finding reasonable accommodations. Is this place half decent and in a safe area? Indicates it is about 15 minutes from the airport - any shuttle service, or roughly any idea on taxi prices. Need to rent a vehicle but since arriving late at night not sure I want to pay for that first day. Any help, suggestions for dining, etc. would be appreciated.

Comfort Inn Colonnade
The Colonnade is a very safe area. I%26#39;m sorry I%26#39;m not able to answer your other questions!
Comfort Inn Colonnade
This hotel is in a good location. I can%26#39;t make any personal recommendations about this hotel since I%26#39;ve never stayed there but it did receive some good reviews here at TA as recent as February 2008. I don%26#39;t think this hotel offers a shuttle to and from the airport but I%26#39;d call them (205) 968-3700 to be certain. If you need to take a taxi you could expect to pay $35 or more to get to this hotel. Most taxis from the airport to downtown Birmingham run around $15 and thats less than 6 miles.
The Birmingham Door-to-Door Shuttle Service (tel. 205/591-5550) provides van service between the airport and points throughout Alabama. Reservations are required so call in advance.
Being you are at the heart of Hwy 280 and I-459 you have a huge selection of restaurants to pick from. You can visit the Summit, the Galleria and numerous restaurants down Hwy 280 East.
Hope you have a good trip
