Leaving in the morning-Memphis to Orlando last minute Q!!!!

Hello, all!

Just wanted to double check with you Birmingham experts on our Memphis TO Orlando driving plan.

My questions are:

1. Ya%26#39;ll gave me what looks to be good advice for RETURN leg: driving from Orlando-Tallahassee to Dothan-stop for the night route...continuing on to Montgomery-Birmingham-Memphis. Ok, so...should we take the same route TO Orlando?

MapQuest keeps giving me:

Memphis-Birmingham-Auburn-Columbus_Albany-Valdosta-Orlando (hope that makes sense). This route does not go near Dothan. Hoping you real world drivers who have done the Birmngham to Orlando drive can advise on which is best for traffic, construction, etc.

We are leaving on a Friday afternoon (trying to avoid incoming snow/ice). It will take us 12-13 hours...we are driving straight with 2 drivers and have guaranteed hotel room waiting for us Saturday morning in Orlando.

Thanks SO much for your help:)

I know when my friends drove- they went thru Atlanta and down - and met some folks from Bham at Disney and they told them to come home a different way which was the way mapquest is saying via 280 which is through Auburn- they said it was easy- i might go that way- you could stay in columbus- I think Columbus is 3 or 4 hours from here-

friend in Memphis,

I have not ever been through Auburn/Columbus way, but HAVE been the other two ways.

I definitely prefer the way through Dothan (US 231 to I-10, to I-75, etc.). I have found that when a route is similar enough in time %26amp; mileage to one that goes through ATL, it is ALWAYS better to avoid ATL. especially on a Friday!

Just prepare yourself that when going through Dothan, it appears to take forever to get through that town, as even the bypass is loaded with red lights, but it does come out better.

I also try www.randmcnally.com to compare %26amp; double check route reccommendations. I think Rand McNally has something you can look up CURRENT road construction conditions that may help you plan, not to mention give you those alternatives if you come upon a traffic jam.

Are youtaking a GPS?

HAVE FUN!

bhlkin...thanks so much for your quick reply. It is our Spring Break and several families from our area are headed to Orlando...kept hearing people mention the other route and wanted to double check. We will stick with the Dothan direction. Really appreciate the tip on the webiste for current road conditions :) Thank you, again!

We have a surburban with onstar navigation screen...love the fun tools and space for all the kids/carpooling/sports...HATE filling that baby up with gas :)
