Lighthouse Condos for newbies to GS

My family and I will be traveling to Gulf Shores in July for our first trip to the area. We booked a condo at Lighthouse Condos. Does anyone have anything that they can tell us about these? Also, we have a 9 yo, 6 yo, and 2 yo. Suggestions of restaurants and attractions would be helpful! THANKS!

Go to the ';search'; box at the top of this thread and type in ';restaurants';. That will give you pages and pages of resto information. Then type in ';activities'; and that will give you pages and pages. Both cover more info than I could give you on one post. Enjoy!

I did that. Thanks! I am looking for personal recommendations as well. Lighthouse Condo info. anyone??

The Lighthouse is very new, and very big, and by external appearance very nice. It is what I would call a high density condo - lots of units. I%26#39;ve never been in it, but as new and nice as it looks on the exterior, how bad could it be. It%26#39;s in the middle of Gulf Shores close to everything.

For restaurants, try Calypso Joes at Orange Beach Marina. It%26#39;s nice to get there early before you might have to wait for a table and see the charter boats come in with fish, and then eat. Maybe show up around 4:30 and eat the early bird supper (sorry, no discounts for early birds).

Waterville is a good water park that is very close. I don%26#39;t know about a 2 yo, but the other kids would probably like the Naval Aviation Musuem in Pensacola. It%26#39;s a bit of a drive, but well worth it - lots of airplanes to look at, sit in, etc...

Foley has a nice array of outlet stores in one central place, if you like shopping. It%26#39;s probably only about 15-20 minutes from the Lighthouse.

I%26#39;ll second Calypso Joe%26#39;s. It%26#39;s our favorite-- we eat there every trip. Some people rave about LuLu%26#39;s, but I found the food and crowds to be less than desirable. Live Bait has been pretty good to us. Shrimp Basket is a dive, but has good food. Definitely eat early or you%26#39;ll wait. (You%26#39;ll probably still wait early-- just not as long.)

The Track is perfect entertainment for kids those ages. There%26#39;s a little kid ride section for your 2yo. Lots of go-karts, mini-golf, etc. We%26#39;ve never done it, but you could see the Blue Angels in Pensacola. But mostly, we%26#39;re on the beach or at the pool.

Thanks for the Calypso Joe%26#39;s advice. We will definitely go there.

I%26#39;m also chiming in for Calypso Joes! It%26#39;s our favorite and we go every trip!

As for the Lighthouse, we stayed there for our 7 night vacation at the end of Sept. and it was great! Great parking, great building. The pools are really nice as well. One of the pools is a zero entry pool which means that it slowly slopes down to a deeper area rather then dropping off. The beach is great in this area. We had a great time at the Lighthouse and highly recommend it!

Also a great restaurant recommendation, espeically w/ kids, is Lamberts in Foley, near the outlets. Great, great food. So much you just might have to take half of what you ordered back to your condo the next day. They have the throwed rolls, which kids love. You can check them out online by looking up Lamberts restaurants. Have fun!

I definitely agree with the Lambert%26#39;s suggestion. Both you and the kids will have a blast there. Also, try The Original Oyster House. They have great seafood, as well as other dishes. Lots and lots of choice.

Stacey%26#39;s Rexall in Foley is an authentic ';soda fountain';. So old fashion that they lack a web site.

Not a tourist trap...just a great find.
