name of a restaurant

Hey, I need help remembering the name of a restaurant that we ate at when we were in Huntsville in the summer of 2005. It was in a strip mall and served good southern cooking - fresh fried chicken, fried pork chops, okra, beans and cornbread, etc. Everything was cooked fresh, and there was a sign that said something about it NOT being a fast food restaurant. The decor was nothing special, but the food was good. We went to it because the Alabama tourism guide ranked it as one of the top restaurants to visit in AL, if you wanted the real cuisine of the south. Anybody know what restaurant that is?

That would be G%26#39;s on Oakwood Ave. at Pulaski Pike. Good food but definately slow and often mixes up the orders. Haven%26#39;t been there in a while because they are so slow. Be aware they ar closed Sunday and Monday.

Hmmm...coastermeister,

Could it have been Rolo%26#39;s on Airport Road?

G%26#39;s is very good but it is in what might be considered to be a ';sketchy'; part of town. Shouldn%26#39;t stop anyone from going there--it%26#39;s not that bad.

Rolo%26#39;s, on the other hand, is in a strip mall in a nicer, newer part of town. There%26#39;s quite a bit of traffic in that area too. (Very close to Memorial Parkway) Rolo%26#39;s does have a model train running on a track around the wall (near the ceiling) so maybe that will sound familiar.

No, I think it might have been G%26#39;s, because it was in a %26#39;sketchy%26#39; part of town, as I recall - I remember being surprised that it was listed in the state tourism booklet because of the area and decor. However, we enjoyed the experience and the food tasted what we remember our grandmas cooking!

';and there was a sign that said something about it NOT being a fast food restaurant'; was a dead give-away for G%26#39;s. Rollo%26#39;s has no such sign that I have ever seen. Rollo%26#39;s is good too though. I miss the Rollo%26#39;s Express that was around for a while.

Oh, the sign. I%26#39;ve only been to G%26#39;s twice and the last time was about a year ago so that sign didn%26#39;t really make an impression on me.

I heard that Rolo%26#39;s Express closed because of all the prolonged construction on South Parkway awhile back. I%26#39;m sure that could make a real difference for a smaller, locally owned restaurant.
