Nice place to stay where you can walk to ';town';

After researching, I have realized that Fort Morgan isn%26#39;t actually a ';town.'; I have been through several sites and vrbo for places, but nothing really shows where things are located on a map. After reading, it sounds like Fort Morgan is basically all condos/houses, and there isn%26#39;t a town-like area with restaurants and shopping.

We would like to stay in a nice, new, clean place where we can walk to ';town.'; It sounds like Gulf Shores is ';town.'; Is this right?? Thanks in advance for help. I am obviously a first-time visitor, as I don%26#39;t know the area at all!! We are going for a wedding in late March.

WE have stayed in fort morgan several times,

But you are right, it is not really a town per say..

There are several good condo%26#39;s in town close enough to walk to restaurants and shops.

Island royale, Island tower, Phoenix all suites hotel west,

Southern sands is a small complex, beach front, near the public beach, and you cab get a good deal on vrbo.

Gulf shores is still a bit strung out, But it is easy to walk to most things...

The shrimp basket is a good place to eat, it is just up from the intersection of 59 and 180.

Good recs from Fordarama (as usual). Also, on East Beach Blvd there are some newer properties like Southwind, Lighthouse and San Carlos. Most of East Beach Blvd and West Beach Blvd up through the 500 blocks are within walking distance to the shops and restaurants.

Thanks for the info. So would you suggest staying in Gulf Shores to be able to walk into a main town area? If so, do you recommend any places to stay?

Sorry--I am not clear if the places you are recommending are in Gulf Shores or Fort Morgan.

The places I recommended are in Gulf Shores along Beach Blvd. Look at www.gulfshores.com for a map.

Thanks for all your help. I have looked through several properties, and most are booked, too big, or really expensive. I know we are at the last minute for 3/28. I sent an inquiry to 163282 on vbro. If you have any thoughts on the property or what little is said about the area, please let me know. It is very reasonable compared to some of the condos.

Not sure where the vrbo property is located, but sounds like it%26#39;s in the woods on the bay side of Fort Morgan Road. Just depends on what you want out of the trip. It states it%26#39;s a mile to the beach. If you want to be closer in to town or closer to the beach, check out some of the condos across the street from the beach. Places like Gentle Winds, 3C%26#39;s, Alabama Sands, Sea Oats, Crow%26#39;s Nest, Lagoon Landing and Lagoon Run. All are within a block of the beach and are as reasonable as the cottage you mention. I%26#39;m seeing availability on all of them for that weekend and most are under $100 a night.

When we wanted to stay ';walking distance to town'; we stayed at Island Winds. It%26#39;s an older building and I%26#39;d say the units might be smaller than some others, but some of the units are updated so still nice. We really liked the beach there, and were able to walk to some restaurants, stores, etc. We rented through Brett-Robinson that time, but you could also check through vrbo. With pictures of the specific unit, you could see if you feel it is what you%26#39;re looking for or not.

hi, bonnevendange

just a word about vrbo...owners have always come down from their states prices for rentals in all of my experiences. Pick a property that you want to stay at...then search for it on vrbo...easier than searching through everything on the GS/OB/FM vrbo lists.

But, honestly the rental companies really are very competitive and provide more protection/better cancellation/options to move if you don%26#39;t like your unit.

Meyerre.com is my preferred rental company. They usually always offer a pay of 3 get 4th night free or pay for 4/5th night free, etc except during peak season. They also offer grocery delivery so that you will have the basics when you arrive and don%26#39;t have to hit Walmart, Brunos or Publix right away.

Other friends like Kaiser, Brett Robinson, and gulfshoresrentals.com companies.

On Fort Morgan, the Beach Club is the only place we will stay. We love the convenience of the onsite grocery market/casual cafe, ice cream shop/gift shop, bar and restaurant...as well as the beautiful grounds, tennis courts, etc. It feels more lively than the stand alone condo complexes to us, anyway :)

Booking through the Beach Club website is too expensive...if you are interested in staying there...use one of the other companies mentioned above.

Units can vary widely...look at pictures for each unit. I can%26#39;t personally suggest anything in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach that is gulf-front and within walking distance of much...all the places that we stay at require a car to get around.

But, you could look for propeties near where I-59 dead ends at the gulf. You will have a few restaurants and souvenier places withing walking distance if that is what you are looking for...or you might look into staying near the wharf for more action. Good Luck...the beach is beautiful :)

Happy Travels!

forgot to add...your travel date of 3/28 falls within spring break for many Tennessee %26amp; Arkansas schools. As a long standing tradition...many families will be heading to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach/Destin area. If you find what you like book quickly!
