Mobile Tennis Center

Our Tennis team is coming to Mobile at the end of April to compete in the USTA National Championships at Mobile Tennis Center (also called Newton Cox Tennis Cenetr).

None of us have been to Mobile and look forward to exploring Mobile.

We are looking for nice comfortable, clean accommodations near the Tennis facilty. Even a condo would work. We will be there from April 26 to 30th.

We also are trying to find what are the ';don%26#39;t miss'; sites, events, tours to do in that short time.

Any Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you

The tennis center is a nice facility. It doesn%26#39;t have any hotels extremely close by that I can think of, but a bunch within a 15 minute drive or so. I like the Homewood Suites off Airport Blvd. near Hillcrest Road. There is also an almost new Hampton Inn there. To get to the Tennis Center would be east on Airport a few hundred yards, north on Hillcrest for about a half mile, east on Old Shell for a few hundred yards, north on University then right onto Galliard and it takes you to the Tennis Center.

Otherwise there are a lot of hotels on the I-65 frontage roads, referred to commonly as the Beltline.

Bellingrath Gardens is a nice place to visit, but the azaleas will have already bloomed by then, so it won%26#39;t be at its peak. I imagine it would still be nice. If you%26#39;ve never been on an old battleship, the USS Alabama on Mobile Bay is a nice attraction. Mobile is a great place to live, but not a real tourist town full of great ';must see'; attractions.

One other thing, if there are any golfers in your traveling group they may want to bring the clubs. Magnolia Grove, a nearby public course, is a Robert Trent Jones course and is very nice. Two 18 hole layouts and a very interesting Par 3 course as well. The Crossings course is the home of the LPGA tournament of champions each year. The Falls course is an even better layout but since it doesn%26#39;t have a turn at the clubhouse it doesn%26#39;t lay out as well for tournaments. It%26#39;s not usually crowded, and very little of the course if any has houses on it. A very scenic and challenging track.

Thank you for the great input. USTA will be putting on a dinner on the USS Alabama one night for us. We are all excited to see it.
