Mobile,AL causeway.

Wondering what the causeway is like. I have a fear of bridges. Silly, I know. Especailly one%26#39;s up high.

Will be traveling from IA to Gulf Shores. The fastest route is on I-10 to 59.

Thank you.

You will go under a tunnel and when youcome up, you will cross a long , low bridge over the bay,

Here are three pictures, one is a shot of the uss alabama and the bridge over mobile bay,

two are of the tunnel...

It really isn%26#39;t scary at all.,

A word of advice- watch your speed going into and out of the tunnel. There are some sharp turns and people tend to go too fast and crash. Happens monthly.

What is the speed limit in the tunnel and over the causeway? Thanks for advise.

Speed limit going into the tunnel is 40 m.p.h., I believe (because of the curves before you get into the tunnel). Once in you can pick up the speed to 50 at least or you may get run over. Also, cars can change lanes in the tunnel. Speed limit over the causeway is 55, but many travel 60-65 and a few idiots faster. Beautiful drive across the Bay!

Actually, I think the speed limit in the tunnel is the same as on the causeway. That is either 55 or 65 depending on conditions. A lot of those accidents spoken of earlier are caused by people slamming on their brakes and going too slow entering the tunnel. The road is the same width in the tunnel as it is outside.

I%26#39;ll keep the speed limits in mind. Thanks to everyone for forewarning me. It helps to know what to expect.

There is a sign as you enter the tunnel telling you that your speed is to fast.

More than apt if you are going thru on a saturday afternoon, there will be stop and go traffic thru there.

No having to worry about speed at all..........

To much traffic all going in the same direction...

Oops! I was wrong, wrong, wrong! Went through the tunnel westbound this morning and there are advisory signs that say ';Tunnel 40 MPH';. If you do 40, though, you%26#39;re liable to get run over...

The causeway is so low that it doesn%26#39;t feel like a bridge. But, it is miles long. :)

How long is the causeway? It really isn%26#39;t sounding too bad. I can always close my eye%26#39;s if I start to panic :)
