I promise to quit hogging the board today but I just had another question! We%26#39;re staying on Ft. Morgan for a week in mid-July. Can anyone recommend a place that rents those big beach cabanas/canopies (maybe including set up?) and chairs? Or, do you recommend any stores down there that sell the canopies/cabanas for a reasonable price?
We would like some shade for the week and right now, we only have a small two person umbrella that we bought at the GS Walmart several years ago. There will be 6 of us, so we need a canopy this year. We%26#39;re looking for one in our area to possibly buy and bring down but I also wanted to consider taking care of it down there, if it might be easier. Thanks for any ideas/suggestions!
Renting beach canopy/chairs? or place to buyWe just got back from GS and for two lounge chairs and an unbrella the cost was $25 a day and got cheaper if you rented for more than one day. I%26#39;m not sure about canpoy%26#39;s though, didn%26#39;t really see any for rent or anyone renting them.
Renting beach canopy/chairs? or place to buyThanks for the information. We%26#39;re staying at a house on Ft. Morgan so I think we%26#39;re leaning towards buying our own canopy--since there will be so many of us. We had one last year that was borrowed but won%26#39;t be able to use it again this year. I just thought if there were a easy way to rent one, and the price was good, we might try that instead.
Your best and cheapest bet would be wal-mart....
You could always offer it to someone if you didn%26#39;t want to take it home..
We bought one last year, and the wind bent it all to pieces, first day.....
Ended up buying a 7 foot umbrella,,,
If the wind is really strong, the best bet is to set it up shorter,
And back away from the edge of the beach, about 30 feet or more...
The winds are stronger the closer to the water you get...
What we really would like is to buy a canopy that doesn%26#39;t get torn up while we%26#39;re there this year and then be able to re-use it in years to come. We have a little umbrella we bought many years ago and we still take it with us--but it just does the job for 2 people. With our son along, we like to have a bit more shade. I%26#39;m hesitant to spend too much money on one--since there%26#39;s always that chance that it gets torn up down there--but if I go too cheap, it may get ruined the first day or two.
Where%26#39;d you find your big umbrella and how easy is it to take on your drive down there and then set up? Thanks!
We bought ours at wal-mart last summer...
I am sure the one in gulf shores still sells them.
That is where we bought ours,
There were tons of the canopys on the beach this year, and they all looked good at the end of the week.
The trick , Like I said, Is to keep it back from the water a bit..
Less wind drag,
I did see people lean theirs taller in the front, and shorter in the back..
It seemed to work good...
It kept the shade under them better,,,
I am so jealous, That you get to go still.
I told hubby that I am ready for summer to be over now, Since we have already gone to the beach, Not much else to look forward to...Sad huh??
Another option is the Coleman outlet store in Foley. Right now they have a lot of canopies and stuff like that set up out in front of the store. It%26#39;s on the east side of Hwy 59 right next to Outback Steak House.
Thanks for the suggestions about the GS Walmart and the Coleman outlet store in Foley--both good ideas. I%26#39;ll mention these to my husband so we can figure out if we%26#39;re buying here or there.
Thanks, too, for the tips about how to set up the canopy a bit back from the water. Hopefully, we%26#39;ll keep ours in good shape so we can keep using it!
I am so ready to get down there. We try to wait until the middle of the summer so that we have something to look forward to. Of course, if I could afford it (and we had the time), I would go down in June and July. Honestly, I wish I could just move down for the whole month of July. Wouldn%26#39;t that be wonderful!!?!
Do like we did and just move down here! Smartest thing we ever did...
Every time we visit GS, I always talk to my husband about moving down there. I keep a lookout for the local schools since we%26#39;re both in education. Surely, they need us there?? ha, ha! I can dream...
If hubby could find a job in his field , we would so be there,,
%26#39;we joke about living in a rv, when a hurricane comes,
we could just drive away with all our stuff..lol
We were a bit dissapointed with tacky jacks this year,,
food was just ok...
shrimp basket was great...
