I%26#39;ve been going to Gulf Shores for 20 years and to the Fort Morgan area for the last 5. It%26#39;s a lot less crowded than Gulf Shores and you should have plenty of room to relax on the beach, play games (if you have kids) and enjoy the beautiful beaches. Jelly fish are *not* the norm in AL, but they will occur from time to time. Just depends on the weather and currents. *if* you get them, it%26#39;s usually only for a day. (I%26#39;ve only had them 2x in 20 years). As for a fish market, there may be one, but not that we%26#39;ve found. If you are willing to drive for some local quality, I recommend Billy%26#39;s Seafood on Bon Secour. It%26#39;s a neat drive and you are getting the freshest seafood possible from local fisherman. It literally comes off their boats and into the shop right next to the water. No imported shrimp from Vietnam or fish from Chile here..... Another note: we always bring binoculars so that we can check out the ships leaving Mobile Bay. Kinda neat.

Ft. Morgan is great! We stayed out there last summer with a big group of family--7 adults and two kids. We rented a house around the 16 mile marker and really loved all the privacy, space, and quiet that we got out there. No big crowds at all. As a matter of fact, we didn%26#39;t see many people at all during our week and this was in mid-July.
There is a place to get seafood, both fresh and cooked, at a Chevron station on Ft. Morgan road. It%26#39;s not too far from where Ft. Morgan road meets up with the main Gulf Shores highway (59, I think). I can%26#39;t recall the name of it, but I know it%26#39;s right next to the Chevron. My parents always bought the food we got from there last year so I never actually stopped there. Anyway, we started out buying our own fresh shrimp there and cooking it at the house. However, my parents soon discovered that this place will also cook it for you--so by the end of the week we were eating shrimp and crab legs that they cooked--we just brought it back to the house and fixed the sides. The seafood was delicious and we%26#39;re already planning to eat from there again this summer (frequently!).
I know there are other places in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach to get seafood but this would keep you from having to drive very far. There are also grocery stores in Gulf Shores, along with a walmart supercenter for your more typical ';grocery'; needs.
As for the jellyfish, you just won%26#39;t know until you get there. We were there for a week last year in July and maybe saw jellyfish one day--and not very many. Hopefully, that%26#39;s one issue that won%26#39;t come up but there%26#39;s really no way to predict. Have a great trip!!
Just a quick note: If you do get stung by a jellyfish, put Adolph%26#39;s Meat Tenderizer on the sting. Count to ten, and the pain will start to go away. The enzymes in the Adolph%26#39;s break down the poison. We ALWAYS bring some in our beach bag - works every time.
thanks for all the info everyone has given. it will be very helpful. will check out the market by the chevron station. sounds great also the one at bon secour how do you get to that one? thanks again
To Billy%26#39;s Seafood...from Hwy 59 go west on County Road 10. Just keep following the signs for about 6 or miles and you%26#39;ll run right into it.
thanks for the directions to billy%26#39;s seafood sounds like it would be worth the drive.
