We stayed at Ft. Morgan 4 days in June of 08. We found a cute little development called ';The Rookery'; that rents cottages by the night. Each cottage is owned invidually. We found ours, #301, on VRBO. We couldn%26#39;t believe it was only $120 a night. We were very impressed with the house. Decorated nicely, new furniture, good beds, all utensils in the kitchen we would ever need. The pool area was really nice too. There%26#39;s not much in the way of restaurants out on Ft. Morgan road. One night we bought shrimp and shrimp gumbo from a seafood place on Hwy 180/Ft. Morgan Road. It was delicious. It%26#39;s called Ft. Morgan Seafood I think. It%26#39;s next to a Chevron station. The only downsides were jellyfish on 2 days and some sort of biting flies at night. Daytime at the pool was fine. But we were getting bitten by flies one night while at the hottub. We had 2 in our group get stung by jellyfish on the 2nd and 3rd days we were there. We bought Sting-away at the little grocery right by the beach. We were told to squirt the stuff on the sting right away and NOT to rub it (spreads the venom/poison around). We toured the fort at the end of the penisula one afternoon. That was neat. If you don%26#39;t like crowds of people, Ft. Morgan is the place for you. The beach was fine. Not as pretty as Destin, but nice.

Thanks for sharing your report with us! It sounds like the Rookery was very nice. How many bedrooms did the cottages have? I haven%26#39;t heard of this place but want to keep it on my radar for future trips. We%26#39;re renting a house on Ft. Morgan in July and don%26#39;t have a pool. We may need one in a few years, though.
Sorry to hear about the jellyfish and flies. I am not familiar with the Sting-away but will be sure to look for some while down there. Was the grocery store you found it at on Ft. Morgan road (highway 180)?
Thanks,
Lee

Lee--The Rookery cottage we stayed at was VRBO listing # 100826. (Just go to www.vrbo.com) 3 br, 2 full bath. 1 king, 1 queen, and the 3rd room has 2 sets of bunks. Very cute but small. We had to be quiet until my 16 month old nephew could fall asleep! The bedrooms are all directly off the main living area. Everything was very nicely decorated and new. We could wash our feet off at a hose right out on the boardwalk, then put all of our wet stuff on the screened in porch. The Rookery is on highway 180, across the street from the beach. The cross street that we turned down to park next to the beach was Cortez St. Cortez was almost directly across from the entrance to The Rookery. From what I could tell, no Rookery cottages have more than 3 bedrooms. Some have 2. At 120 a night, they%26#39;re affordable enough to get more than one!
The grocery where we bought the Stingaway was on the beach side of Ft Morgan Rd. I can%26#39;t remember the name of the street, but it%26#39;s further west than Cortez St. You turn off of Ft Morgan Rd and it%26#39;s right there. Very small.
Have a great trip %26amp; I wish you no jellyfish!
Thanks for the information about the Rookery--it sounds very nice and the price is excellent! I%26#39;ll have to look for that grocery store once I%26#39;m down there and find the Sting-away. Thanks again.
You are welcome...just noticing you%26#39;re in Little Rock. I grew up in Russellville and graduated from Hendrix in Conway in 93. I wish Tulsa could get it%26#39;s act together and get our river (also the Arkansas River) more developed like you all%26#39;s Riverfront area. We have a small development in Jenks, OK, that is similar to LR%26#39;s, but it%26#39;s not AS cool. Last summer my high school friends had a girl%26#39;s weekend and I all went down to LR%26#39;s Riverfront (can%26#39;t remember what they call it???) and went to a really fun piano bar. We felt kinda old--a group of women, married, without spouses, going there. We definitely stuck out like a sore thumb, but after a couple of hours, we had single guys coming up to us, sitting with us! It was hilarious. We ended up giving a couple of them dating advise. I felt like their mother.
Take care!
Polly
It%26#39;s called the river market.......
Did ya try sticky fingers or underground pub??
Underground pub has awesome burgers....
We have stayed in fort morgan several times, Did ya try tacky jacks???
We didn%26#39;t go to either of those places. We heard Tacky Jacks had good Po Boys, but went into Gulf Shores that evening instead. Went to another beachside seafood place, did go carts.
We looked at The Rookery because of the great prices one time, but ended up going back to Gulf Shores Plantation. I like to be able to look out at the beach and ocean when I%26#39;m down there.
There are several places to eat on Fort Morgan Road: Tacky Jack II (great po-boys and their seafood salad is wonderful and big enough for 2 people), Sunplace Else II on the right by the Chevron station, Beach Hut Cafe on the left behind a service station (really good grilled scallops/shrimp) that also has a pizza place with it that has really good pizza, Mexican restaurant on left on further down w/a grocery store that also has a pizza place in it and a hotdog/hamburger stand on the left down that way. The Beach Club has a couple of restaurants on their grounds - we ate at the cafe there once - good pizza and sandwiches. Also, if you stay at the Plantation they have a small cafe where you can get pizza/sandwiches and cold drinks.
hi Polly,
I%26#39;m glad you enjoyed your visit to Little Rock. The Rivermarket area has really grown in the past 10 years or so--it%26#39;s pretty amazing how it started out compared to what it is now. Needless to say, having the Clinton Library down there has made a huge positive impact. I actually need to be a tourist in my own town and go to the Library at some point!
I don%26#39;t think we%26#39;ve ever gone west from Gulf Shores, so I%26#39;m not familiar with Ft. Morgan.
Is the Rookery right on the beach?
It is good to see the conversation on Little Rock.
I%26#39;m in Star City, AR, about an hour south of LR.
Polly - a group of my friends, older ladies, also visited the piano bar in the Rivermarket one evening.
Since we outnumbered the younger crowd, the pianists began picking out some oldies and we really had a good time.
The rookery is on the bay side of fort morgan, I believe.....
You should really drive down fort morgan road next time...
You can get a second tier house at a good price and still have a view...
It is different that gulf shores, Second tier houses don%26#39;t have any major orads to cross, the ysit right behind the first tier house, maybe 100 feet back more or so.
