I am going to gulf shores from new orleans for memorial day weekend. There will be 11 of us in our condo at mustique which is on west beach blvd. One night we would like to go to a decent dinner and out to the bars. Any ideas? I would prefer a place on the beach to eat and it would be great if we can make a reservation since our table is so big. As far as bars...we are from nola so no clubs but fun places, we are all in our late 20%26#39;s so we would prefer to stay away from 18 yr old hang outs and also old man bars. please help???
Bars/Restaurants??
I%26#39;m an old man, but I don%26#39;t do bars...I can tell you which ones to avoid. FloraBama and Live Bait. Both are full of old men. And desperate divorcees.
Doesn%26#39;t leave a lot. The VIP Lounge on Canal Road is supposedly nice. Haven%26#39;t been to The Hangout, but I suspect you might encounter a pretty young crowd there, even younger than yourself.
Some people like the music at LuLu%26#39;s, which might also be a good choice for dinner with your large crowd. Be prepared to wait, though. Not many places take reservations, especially on holiday weekends. I think your best bet is to go early. Cosmo%26#39;s, Ginny Lane, Villagio (they might hold a table if you call ahead) are all nice choices, though none are on the beach.
Bars/Restaurants??
not much of a party scene down here as we are more geared towards familes.
try this:
I am a 40 year old man and he%26#39;s my picks:
1) I like the Flora-Bama. Sure it%26#39;s an older crowd but they usually have good music and the drinks are flowing
2) Papa Rocco%26#39;s on 59 by the beach. Great locals dive with cheap beer and pretty good food. Live music as well
3) There%26#39;s a new Irish Pub (O%26#39;Choppers) that just opened up in Orange Beach that I%26#39;m hearing good things about. Haven%26#39;t been there yet.
4) Rafters in the Wharf gets good reviews as well
5) I also haven%26#39;t been to the Hangout as well
5) Pink Pony- dive bar on the beach. good prices and surprisingly good food
Places I avoid:
1) Lulu%26#39;s. Sure they have good music but the waits are long, they have no air conditioning, and their drinks are expensive. LOTS of families as well...
2) Mudbugs. Think crystal methed out people singing karaoke....
One thing to remember- don%26#39;t even think about driving even with just a ';buzz'; The cops severly crack down on drunk driving here. Since there%26#39;s so many of you, splurge for a van taxi...
Thanks so much for both of yalls help!!! i really appreciate it
There%26#39;s not much beachfront dining down here. Also, not a lot of places will do reservations, but doesn%26#39;t hurt to ask.
My vote for decent supper (we eat supper at night, dinner is a mid-day snack, c%26#39;mon ur from NOLA u know that!) Cosmo%26#39;s or Louisana Lagniappe.
For bars, crowds and ages are hit/miss; The Undertow, FloraBama, Live Bait, TheKeg, LuLu%26#39;s (crowd) and several @ the Wharf, plus most restaurant%26#39;s bars aren%26#39;t that bad (Tacky Jack%26#39;s, Lester%26#39;s, etc.). nothing of a club scene anyway. for a real treat, find your way out to pirate%26#39;s cove... if u can.
