driving from St. auggie to New orleans need advice

driving from st augustine to new orleans in late June and want a nice 1/2 way stop for 1 night somewhere along the Gulf. Nothing too expensive, good restaurant and good view. Considering Gulf Shores then taking the Mobile Bay ferry...any recommendations??

2 problems I can see:

1) June is during our busy summer months so either you won%26#39;t be able to find accomodations or they will be expensive

2) From I-10, we are about 45 miles further south. You go through several small towns slowing down for each of them. It takes about and hour to get to the Gulf.

Not trying to dissuade you, but you may want to look at Pensacola or possibly even Biloxi if you like to gamble.
