Dauphin Island rentals are available after IKE.

Some homes had steps damaged. Some are without water/sewer on the far west end gulfside. The ones on the north far west end have water/sewer but may not have power.

The near west end homes and beaches are all open and ready for guests.

The beach looks great and wonderful September/October/Novemebr temps and humidity is a well kept secret.

My husband and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary on the Island in the middle of October.

This will be our first time on DI and we%26#39;re both really looking forward to it. We%26#39;ll be staying at #21 Time Out at 2617 Bienville rd. I%26#39;m not familiar with the Island so I don%26#39;t know if it is east or west of raphael simms rd. If you have any information that would help us Ide really appreciate hearing from someone.

thank you,

I have heard that the west end on the gulf side of the road will not have power for two months!! Also sewer on the gulf side out west is in bad shape. Could you be more helpful in the problem areas. No one wants to spend time and money to come there and find out their rentals are without power, water, or sewer. Thanking you

Thank you, you%26#39;re right. I talked to boardwalk realty and they said the house we rented probably won%26#39;t be ready in time for our trip. Although they said they could find us another rental on the island, we feel there will probably be alot of construction going on.

Thanks for the reply aircsi.

UPDATE:

All home are ready for rental except a few on the far West End gulf front due to water/sewer issues.

Call your rental agent to confirm or rescedule into a rental ready home.

Most restaurants and shops are open. The weather is magical right now.

Check out my webcam for a beach view.

I highly suggest a call to a rental agent to check on homes West of Raphael Sims (check a Google map for your address)

The homes to the East of Raphael Sims are UNDAMAGED and will not have construction (except for any scheduled updating)

Also, gulf front homes in gated DeSoto Landing and Audubon Place were undamaged and have beautiful secluded beaches and within walking distance of a golf course, restaurant and bird sanctuary. Most of the island is undamaged.

The folks in my West End rental and East End rental never even left the houses during the storm and had a great time (OUTSIDE OF A FEW HOURS WITHOUT POWER!). This island while small is extremely varied in topography and flora.

Give it a try if you like seclusion but do not come if you have to be entertained by outside stimulation. I call beach rental ';Chill Out'; because that is what you should plan to do if you come to DI. I do not mean to be blunt except there are two types of people, those who hate DI and those who LOVE it and want to ONLY vacation/live here. The main division is if you can make your own fun and enjoy spending time relaxing while enjoying some great beach access and fresh local seafood.

The houses without power or water are pretty much the Gulf-side homes on the streets that start with ';S'; thru ';W'; (the Gulf-side streets are alphabetical). Raphael Semmes, by the way, is spelled ';Raphael Semmes';, if you are trying to locate it on a map.

The houses east of there, and on the north side of Bienville are pretty much all up and running. There is no major construction going on, it%26#39;s basically people repairing their stairs that were washed away.

The Island is very quiet now, and October and April are the two best months on the Island- highs in the upper 70%26#39;s - low 80%26#39;s during the day, and into the 60%26#39;s at night. You practically have the Island to yourself, and the two storms that passed brought a lot of interesting shells, driftwood, etc.

Da Island Mon

This is to the lady who is celebrating her 25th anniversary on the island. We celebrated our 25th the first week of June on the island. LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Hated to come home when the week was up. Our whole family went, including my grandson and we all had an awesome time. Once you get to the island it is magical to sit and listen to the waves and all your daily routines seems so far away. You have time to actually enjoy your family without all of the daily things you have to do at home. We always stop at Walmart in Mobile. I make a grocery list and a menu because once I get to the island we hate to leave for anything. There is a store on the island you need to visit while there, it is called the Ship n%26#39; Shore. That store has everything. The man who started that store passed away a few months ago. His family I believe runs it now. I suggest you go to forgottengulf .com and check out the beach cam. I like to keep up with the waves and also people on the beach, wishing it was me. This was our 3rd time to go to the island and we plan on going back next year. Don%26#39;t let Ike ruin your plans. You might be able to go to another island but I don%26#39;t believe you will find the quiet, rest and relaxation and the magic of what you will find on Dauphin Island. So Happy Anniversary and let us know how you enjoyed the island!

Thank you all for the replies...We ended having to cancel our reservations, the house we had rented was one that received damage from Ike. We are SO disappointed, the island sounds wonderful to us! We are already planning to try again next Summer with the family. It sounds perfect! and everyone we have talked to or dealt with there have been so nice and understanding.

Thanks again...

Have a Great Day!
