I think we have made up our minds and are going in early August. We are staying at Gulf Shores Plantations. We have booked it with Plan with Tan. Has anyone used this to book there trip to the plantations?
Where is the best area we can request our rooms to be?
We are going with another family and are both getting 2 bedroom units.
Any good places to eat that are must do%26#39;s? Any other info on some stuff to do would be great.
The guys want to golf a day or two, where is the best courses?
How is the weather in early August as far as rain?
Has anyone stayed at this resort lately that can give me as much info as possible.
Thanks again for all the info you have gave me!
Just a Few Questions
I know that gulf shors plantation is a really good place to stay. I can%26#39;t help you with what area, other than I love to be beach front, upper levels so the view is better..
I have never heard of plan with tan...I always book trips for my self, with a owner rental web site, or a real estate company...
A great place to golf is kiva Dunes....It is very challenging...
But there are a couple of other really good courses around..
A great place to eat is lulu%26#39;s at homeport marina.. It is owned by Jimmy Buffets sister and is just really fun...It has open air seating...live bands.....a small sandy area where vollyball is played.. gift shops...ect..
The weather in August is hot, with occasional showers....
But it is also in hurricane season, but lets hope for a nother quiet season..
Out in fort morgan is the historic fort morgan, It is located at the end of fort morgan road and can be toured.
ANd there is the state park on the beach itself.... Nice trails, and very peaceful..
There is good shopping in foley alabama, you will pass thru it coming into gulf shores.
And there also is a cool place to eat in foley called lamberts, home of the throwed rolls...Be prepared to wait in line..they are really popular.
Just a Few Questions
If you want gulf views, try to get Bldg 1, 2 or 3. Bldg 4 is not on the gulf. check out their website:
http://www.gulfshoresplantation.com/index.htm
Kiva Dunes is an excellent course. There is also The Peninsula, Glen Lakes and Craft Farms. All have websites, just google them.
Lulu%26#39;s is good food. Also Cosmo%26#39;s, Tacky Jack%26#39;s, DeSoto%26#39;s. Lambert%26#39;s is very popular but they don%26#39;t take credit cards and don%26#39;t serve alcohol, so I have no reason to go there. :)
Weather is usually pretty warm in August with those afternoon showers.
Take advantage of all the websites available for information.
What other web sites have alot of info?
Thanks for the info!
Restuarants....2 must for our family is 1) Original Oyster House 2) Lambert%26#39;s - Home of the Throwed Roll
Both have websites...www.originaloysterhouse.com and www.throwedrolls.com
As far as more info on the area have you tried www.gulfshores.com?
Google ';gulf shores information';. Should show you a bunch of choices.
Good places to eat...
I agree with the posts on LuLu%26#39;s and Original Oyster House, we always try to go there when we are in town. Last time I was at LuLu%26#39;s I had some amazing fish tacos...they were so good that I can%26#39;t wait to go back! You can’t go wrong at the Original Oyster House. Their salad bar is always fresh and they have the best key lime pie in town.
Other places we like to visit:
Bahama Bob’s Beachside CafĂ© (251-948-2100): A great place for lunch or dinner, sit out on the back deck if it isn’t too hot outside. I love the Paradise Island Pecan Crusted Grouper ($15.99). For me, it’s big enough for two to share. If you like vinaigrette dressings, they have a tasty house dressing for their salads.
Louisiana Lagniappe (251-981-2258): Cajun cuisine, nice atmosphere, we usually sit on a deck overlooking the marina. Must try: Corn and Crab Bisque soup.
Gulf Shores Bistro and Bakery (251-967-4646): I’ve eaten here several times for lunch (great atmosphere, great food). They are well-known for their Sunday brunch.
Ribs and Reds (251-948-7337): Some of the best ribs I’ve had. We stopped for lunch one day and it was very good. (I%26#39;m not sure if they are still open since the hurricanes in %26#39;05.)
Tacky Jack’s Tavern (251-981-4144): Open breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Very casual and on the water. Sit on the deck if you can and it’s not too hot. I can’t remember what I ate here, but the atmosphere is fun!
Cafe Grazie (251-981-7278): Perfect if you need a break from seafood. It%26#39;s my favorite Italian restaurant in the area.
There is also a Mellow Mushroom Pizza in Foley if you get hungry while shopping at the outlet malls. I also like to stop by the custard drive-thru that is across the street and down a bit from the outlet mall (I just can%26#39;t remember the name, it might be called ';Shakes';).
Last time we were in town, we found my new favorite place off of Canal Road in Orange Beach (if you are on Canal Road coming from Gulf Shores, it is just before you get to Orange Beach Boulevard on the right and Doc%26#39;s on the left). It%26#39;s called Cosmos (251-948-9663). We went there for lunch, and the food was very fresh and flavorful. Everyone we were with loved it. They have a wide variety of soups, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. They also serve sushi.
Thanks everyone for all this great info!
Good recommendations from CR! Just to update...Ribs and Reds is no longer. Ivan wiped them out, but I hear they are planning a comeback this summer. Don%26#39;t have any details.
And Cafe Grazie has really gone downhill in the past year. The last time we were there the windows were filthy, service lousy and the food mediocre. Too bad, because it used to be a good, fun place.
Louisian Lagniappe upstairs is a much better choice, IMO.
dd992emo,
Thanks for the update on Cafe Grazie...I%26#39;m sad to hear it has gone down hill. Maybe it is a trend with the Italian restaurants in the area; we used to go to Franco%26#39;s but haven%26#39;t for some time after spotty service and food tasting bland several times a few years back. I%26#39;m glad to know about Cafe Grazie in advance of our next trip. There are too many great restaurants in your area to waste time on mediocre ones. Thanks again!
Suz-Z-QT,
I have bought into planwithtan. I have Gulf Shores Plantation in November.
Please let me know how your trip goes !
I had a wonderful trip to Palm Springs, CA to Tuscany Manor with planwithtan.
However, I am finding that one bedroom places are hard to find..and I want my 99.00 deals ! (off season)
