hotel and other suggestion on our way to Orlando from Dallas

Hi,

We are going to drive from Dallas to Orlando around Dec 20. We would stay one night at Mobile or Pensacola area. After the night, we could spend a couple hours around the area before heading to Orlando. We have 2 kids 9 and 11 with us.

1) Any suggestion on whether to stay in Mobile or Pensacola?

2) Any suggestion for decent, not expensive, conveniently located hotel?

3) Any place to visit for a couple hour? Maybe USS Alabama? How long does it take to visit the battleship?

4) If we stay the night in Pensacola, where should we go for a couple hours in the morning before heading to Orlando?

Thank you all in advance!!

I would recommend stopping in Daphne just across Mobile Bay from the city of Mobile. You will be able to find several decent chain motels there. You will still be close enough to the USS Alabama to visit. It will be worth the time and can be done in a couple of hours.

If you choose to go on to Pensacola, I would recommend staying in the Milton area to keep you near I-10. One good option for a visit there is the National Naval Aviation Museum - http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/.

Both previous suggestions good ones. If you prefer the beach, stay in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. Condos this time of the year can be less expensive than motel rooms. Visit the battleship, then have a visit to Alabama%26#39;s georgeous beaches.
