Hi All,
We will be stopping over in Huntsville in October for 1 night, going to tour the Space Center the next day. Wondering about a good place for supper when we get in. Checked on-line, and I know there%26#39;s a Cracker Barrel not too far from us, but also a Lawler%26#39;s Barbecue....has anyone ate there, and if so, would you recommend it, or another place? Thanks for any info you can give us!

Cracker Barrel is good southern food and Lawler%26#39;s is decent barbecue. Both are chains- Cracker Barrel being a national chain and Lawler%26#39;s being a local chain. Sounds like you%26#39;re staying in Athens at I-65 and Hwy 72. Do you want chain food or something unique and local? I live in the Athens area and while there are some decent places in Athens I can%26#39;t say any place has really won me over. In the area around Hwy 72 in Athens there%26#39;s mostly chain food and fast food like Wendy%26#39;s, Hardees, McDonalds, Shoney%26#39;s, Bojangles, Chick Fil-A, Applebee%26#39;s, etc. Casa Blanca is a good Mexican place in a small shopping center just east of I-65 on Hwy 72. There%26#39;s a new Giovanni%26#39;s italian eatery on the square in Athens but I haven%26#39;t tried it yet.
Huntsville has some good places like- G%26#39;s on Oakwood Rd., Tim%26#39;s Cajun on Jordan Ln (near the Space Center), Tenders (3 locations-5 Points, Hwy 20 in Madison, and Wynn Dr near the space center), Blue Plate on Governor%26#39;s Dr (near near Space Center), Burrito Bandito (2 locations-Governor%26#39;s Dr near Space Center and downtown Madison), Swamp Johns (North Memorial Pkwy at Sparkman Dr), Smokey%26#39;s Barbecue (Hwy 72W in Madison), Village Pizza (East Limestone Rd off Hwy 72W between Madison and Athens). A lot of people also like Rosie%26#39;s for Mexican (Hwy 72 and Research Park Blvd).

Thanks coastermeister,
We are staying on University Dr. NW in Huntsville, and Cracker Barrel is our favorite place to eat when we are in the US, but it%26#39;s nice to try something different. I always check for CB because we know if we can%26#39;t find anywhere else the food there is always good, clean restrooms....and the gift shops are a treasure! I typed up %26#39;restaurants in Huntsville, AL%26#39; and Lawler%26#39;s was one that came up and I thought it looked interesting, but wasn%26#39;t sure about it or any of the others I saw, so thought I%26#39;d better ask. Thank you for the list, I%26#39;m printing it out and putting it w/our other travel info!!
You have to stop at Stanlieo%26#39;s Subs and get a ';Kitchen Sink'; -- best sub you will ever put in your mouth. I make a trip there atleast once a year to get a cooler full for the family (9 hours round trip).
We live in Madison and Lawler%26#39;s is our favorite BBQ place. Now rememebr that North AL has many varieties of BBQ, so you can also try Gibson%26#39;s, Dreamland, and many other that are between Athens and Huntvaille and right on Hwy 72!
Lawler%26#39;s is constitantly good but not sure which one you will be heading to. If you come across the one on Hughes Road in Madison, you can eat IN the restaurant. The one on Jeff Rd (and I think the one on Airport RD) are take out. There maybe a table or two outside but that%26#39;s it.
We have a new outdoor mall here which boasts lots of new restaurants. It%26#39;s called Bridgestreet. It%26#39;s very nice and my favorite restaurant there is Cantina Laredo. The make fresh gaucamole right at your table.
Lisa
