Battle House- Nice Hotel

Stayed for 3 nights in the newly opened Battle House in downtown Mobile. We had a corner king in the tower building. the room was large with a nice balcony. A few things we thought were odd--the room had a small tv, 19 inch i think. i know it sounds picky but who has a 19 inch tv anymore? also, they went cheap on the mattress. it was an old spring mattress with a thin down-type pad over it. also, the shower was tiny inside of a very large bathroom. the lobby of the hotel is gorgeous. i was expecting to see lots of memorabilia from the old days of the old hotel. didn%26#39;t see one thing on display. the designers did do an excellent job updating the hotel without going too contemporary. Employees were very nice and hospitable. we had room service several times and each time there was something wrong with the order but they corrected it and were nice about it. Mobile has done a great job of cleaning up downtown. i hope they can eventually bring in companies to fill up these nice office buildings they now have.

Battle House- Nice Hotel

I%26#39;m afraid Mobile has one downfall, terrible service. Really terrible!

Battle House- Nice Hotel

I stayed here myself on from Lundi(Monday) Gras to Fat Tuesday, which is Mardi Gras. It was really beautiful and we will definitely next year get a room for two nights, rather than just the one. Service actually was fine but all we did was go to the bar. Locals know that the bar has better service than the Trellis Room. It serves the same food, too. Even if you don%26#39;t stay here, visit the bar. There%26#39;s usually a pianist, who is not overly loud.

Great location during Mardi Gras because you can walk out the front door and head down St. Francis Street, (turn left on Conception St. then right on Dauphin) towards Dauphin Street bars without being held up by the parades.. Or you can watch outside the hotel since it is on the route.

We had to pay about $359 for an Exec. Suite fronting Royal Street, 4th floor, in the Historic Section. The bathroom was divine, black and white travertine marble floors with black marble on the sink and bathtub. Yellow wallpaper with fleur de lisle symbols. Also a separate shower. Nice!

Anyway, my hubby and I stayed here and ended up having practically a honeymoon. We were also trying to leave the next day on a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale, so I was really frazzled and truly the hotel made a definite difference!!

Update to this thread

Stayed at the Battle House last night at the state retirement rate. Asked for and got a room in the Tower section. The room was fine --nice bathroom, good linens, partial view of the waterfront. The TV was smaller and the bathtub and shower smaller than expected. The closing of other doors was noisy.

Real Negatives--no pool, no pool or parking agreements with the Riverview parking garage which in both cases makes no sense since they are both RSA properties.

I have recently taken advantage of this state retirement rate program at the Ross Bridge Hoover, the Riverview Mobile and the Battle House Mobile and rank them in that order.

Supposedly, they recently put in a pool. I know their spa is finished and is really nice.

I must disagree with Felschurch on the Mobile hotels. I too have stayed at the Riverview and the Battle House. I think the Battle House is a much better hotel than the Riverview even without a pool. The rooms, furnishings, and overall ambience at the Battle House out shine the Riverview. Just my two cents, of course.
